Freedom Lost - Restoration
Discover the forgotten Black History of New Bern, the Colonial Capital of North Carolina, once a city of refuge for Free Blacks and thousands of runaway slaves. During the Civil War, Federal Troops occupied the city, establishing James City, one of the first communities of former slaves in the state. But after the war, freedom was lost. 300 years later, a wounded community raises up a memorial.
